Goose Tales
What's a Blue
Goose?
Good question. There are several theories as to how the Blue Goose
Inn came by that name. One is that the original building--moved from
Harsen's Island after the turn of the century--was part of the Blue Goose
Hotel on the Island. Another is that it was named after the nearby
trolley stop on Jefferson Avenue. Do you have a different thought?
Let us know by using the form on our contact page! And, no,
we honestly have no idea if there really is such a thing as a "blue
goose"!!!
The Blue Goose Inn has been operating in its current location since at
least 1910; at that time it was a saloon and grocery owned by John Green,
Jr. and his wife Ida, and it ran that way until the end of Prohibition.
When Prohibition ended, it cashed in on that opportunity to change form
and became the Blue Goose Inn, the forerunner of the bar and restaurant it
is today.
The Blue Goose Inn has undergone numerous renovations throughout the
years--as evidenced by the photos (coming soon!) on this page!--but one thing NEVER
changes:
Blue
Goose Inn is the place for great food, cold drinks, fun times and rockin'
music on the East Side!
